Jaakko Laitinen & Lapin Lisä is the passion project of singer Jaakko Laitinen, known for his wild Balkan songs, and accordionist Marko Roininen. After years of playing their own songs, the musicians decided to return to their musical roots: genuine, lush Lapland humppa. Lapin Lisä’s debut album, released in 2023, has been called both turbo humppa and psychedelic schlager.
The seven-piece band explores what humppa and jenkka can do, with sprawling solos and rising tempos, while respecting the character of the songs. The repertoire is made of songs from and about Lapland, and the band conjures unheard-of dimensions out of them. Preparing a new album, the band has dug deeper into the secret archives of Lapland humppa: besides the classics, expect songs that have not been heard anywhere for decades.
